Setting up Veeam Backup and Replication for use of Pro Logic System S3 Object Storage:
For a Name type in “Pro Logic Systems – S3 Bucket”
Next you will need to add your access key and secret key into your credentials section. Your keys should have been emailed to your during the on boarding process.
Insert the service point URL : https://s3e1.prologicsystems.com/
Region – US-EAST-1
Add your access key and secret and then click next.
Next, select the appropriate bucket, *if multiple buckets exist, if not select the only one available.
For the Folder, click Browse and you will create a new folder named “Veeam Backups”. Then click ok.
For storage limitations you can select to limit it to the amount of space purchased. This will set it as a hard limit, if not then there will be no limit and you may consume more than the agreed upon capacity, but additional monthly charges will apply at the on-demand rate.
Then click next.
Once completed verify that the repository has been created and is displayed in the list.
Make sure that before you create the Scaleout Repository that there is a local repository that exists with NO current backup jobs or data utilizing it. Once that is created you can move on to the next steps to create the scale out repository.
Next browse to the Scale-out repository Section, then click on Add Scale-out Repository.
Type in the name and description as below and click next.
Click Add, and then select the performance tier repository and then click OK. Then click next.
Next click the extend scale-out backup repository option.
Select the S3 Bucket which was created, check box the box for Copy Backups to object storage as soon as they are created.
For the “Window”, validate what are allowed times for backups to copy to the cloud object storage. This may impact internet connection performance while these jobs process. So it is important to select a time that is appropriate for your environment.
Next set when local backups should be moved to the object store from local performance tier.
Finally, type in a encryption password, This will encrypt all the backup data and only you will know the password and be able to use that to recover the data. We are not responsible for the safe keeping or knowledge of this password. The customer should keep this password safe and secured somewhere it will not be lost.
Click Apply and then Finish.
Scale out storage should be created now.
The customer can now update back up jobs to use the new Scale out repository if they already have existing backup jobs or you can create new back up jobs that will use the repository.
Browse to the Home section and click New Back up Job, type in a name and description then click next.
Click Add, then browse for the VM you want to backup. Then click Add. And then Next.
Select the scale out repository that we created. Set the restore points per customer requirements. Click next.
Verify with customer if their application requires app-aware processing. Then click next.
Verify with the customer a schedule for the back up and set appropriately. Then click Apply and finish.
